Hello, and Happy New Year! We thought we’d kick off the new year by sharing our best bathroom cleaning hacks to save you time, money and effort in 2018. Ready? Let’s get down to business….
1. Bath Toy Blitz
Your child’s friendly favourites are most likely harbouring enough germs to make them poorly. The easiest way to clean them is to ensure that there’s no residual water in them, then pop them in to the dishwasher. This will kill any lingering bacteria and make them safe for your little one to use again. Hurrah!
2. Shaving Cream Save
Cover your bathroom mirror in shaving cream (it sounds bad, but trust me), leave it to sit for 5 minutes, then come back and wipe clean with a damp cloth. This will keep your mirror mist free for 1 week.
3. Beat Bath Rings
Over time, soap scum rings can build up on your bath, and they’re notoriously difficult to remove. Simply cut a grapefruit in half and pour on about a tablespoon of salt onto it. Rub this along the ring and it will vanish, leaving your bath clean and fresh again.
4. Sanitise Your Toilet Brush Holder
Always add around an inch of your favourite disinfectant to your toilet brush holder. This will kill germs in between use and will prep your brush for the next time you need to use it.
5. Tackle Glass
Tumble dryer sheets are the best way to tackle soap scum on glass shower doors. Simply dampen the sheet and gently rub the affected area. The ingredients dissolve the soap quicker than anything else we’ve tried. Rinse and dry as normal.
6. Tile Rescue
Clean tiles quickly and more efficiently by fitting a soft scrubbing brush to a drill. Use your favourite cleaner and some water to clean tiles and grout faster than ever!
7. Quick Shower Curtain Fix
Maybe this one is obvious, but a lot of folk don’t know that you can wash your shower curtain in the washing machine. Add a few tablespoons of white vinegar to kill any residual bacteria and wash as normal. Hang the curtain back up wet, in a warm bathroom to allow it to air dry. Most shower curtains can’t be tumble dried - so please bear that in mind.
8. Hygienic Shower Head
A sandwich bag and white vinegar is the perfect solution for any grimy shower head. Place the shower head into the bag and fill will vinegar until the head is submerged in the vinegar, secure with an elastic band and rest for 1 hour. Not only will the vinegar break up any lingering residue, it will kill bacteria that can live inside the shower head.
9. Banish Soap Scum
Avoid the build-up of soap scum in the shower by applying a light layer of baby oil to tiles and glass. Soap will slide off and rinse away easily, which means less cleaning for you.
10. Mop Time
Use a clean mop on tiles and on your bathroom ceiling to remove soap scum and water marks. It’s easy, and a LOT faster than going over everything by hand.
These are our tried and tested favourites, but do you have any that you’d like to share? What works for you that you’d like to recommend? Good luck with your 10 new bathroom hacks! We’d love to hear how you get on. Catch you all next week!
