Spotlight on...Trudie

Our staff at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms are the epicentre of our business, each of their roles are key to the daily running and growth of the company, so we love to show them off. This month we’re shining the ‘Spotlight on’ Trudie, our Purchasing & Stock Controller.

 Spotlight on...Trudie

Hi Trudie, tell us a bit about yourself

I joined Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms all the way back in September 2016 as a Purchasing Assistant. Before WDB I worked as a merchandiser in the buying team of an online homeware store, which sold high end furniture. Fast forward 4 years, and I am a key member of the buying team, bringing you a complete offering of functional yet stylish bathroom products.

What’s your role at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms?

My role is Purchasing and Stock controller. This means I am responsible for the end to end buying of all bathroom product stock, maintaining current stock levels and reacting to the demand of sale. If I didn’t buy the correct levels of stock, we would either have too much or too little, so it’s important to find a balance of what, you, the customer wants.

Within the buying team, no day is really the same. One day I can be dealing with suppliers, the next freight forwarders. I find it fascinating that our products have a complete manufacturing process and delivery journey that perhaps people don’t realise.

What do you like most about working for Wholesale Domestic bathrooms?

I really like working at Wholesale Domestic because it is more than just a workplace, it is a family. We’re all part of the same team, working towards the same goal, and we each know that our opinions are listened to and appreciated. It feels great to be part of a company that is doing really well and on a daily basis you know you’re helping the business grow and reach its targets. Gooooooooooooo Wholesale!

What’s your favourite Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms product and why?

It’s got to be the 1000 x 800mm Dionysus Bluetooth Mirror, I have this product in my bathroom at home. I love that the Bluetooth allows me to connect my music through the mirror so I don’t need to shower in silence!

 Dionysus Mirror

Do you have any fun facts about yourself?

I’m an avid traveller, I love going to obscure places, and learning new cultures. The most recent place I visited was Columbia, and I can’t wait for my next adventure!

Thanks Trudie

Trudie is a significant cog in our buying & stock wheel. If she didn’t buy in enough stock, you wouldn’t be able to get what you need!

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Trudie and finding out some insight into her role here at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms. Stay tuned for our next Staff Spotlight.

Spotlight on...Dom

At Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms, we love shouting about our amazing staff, inviting you to get to know them and telling you what they do within Scotland’s largest bathroom company.

So, this month, we’re introducing you to Dom, our Website Content Administrator.

Spotlight on...Dom

Hi Dom, tell us a bit about yourself.

After I left school, I studied for a year at the City of Glasgow College, specialising in Interactive Media, which involved graphic design and web development. This led me onto Abertay University in Dundee where I studied Web Design & Communication, which I really enjoyed, however I knew that I wanted to pursue my career back in Glasgow. Then the role at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms came up, which was an excellent opportunity and the perfect transition from University.

What’s your role at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms?

I work as a Website Content Administrator in the E-Commerce team. For those who have never heard of the term “E-Commerce” before, this means selling products on the internet instead of in a shop, and to facilitate this the company requires a team. My role is to create and upload new products to the website, as well as improving the website user experience to make it easier for you, the customer, to find and buy your new bathroom.

Spotlight on...Dom

What’s your favourite part of the job?

I really enjoy thinking up and looking at different ways that the website could be improved, whether that’s trying to work out why there’s an issue, or changing something in order to make it better.

What do you like most about working for Wholesale Domestic bathrooms?

It has to be the working environment. When I joined last year, I felt very welcomed into the Wholesale family, all the staff are great to work with. It’s also great to see how fast the company is growing across many areas of the business.

What’s your favourite Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms product and why?

I love the rain effect showerheads; I think they are so modern and a much better choice over a standard spray shower. However, the Cloud Burst Shower Head has got to be my favourite, it’s just so unusual. Who knew there were so many different styles of showerheads?!

Spotlight on...Dom

Do you have any fun facts about yourself?

I’m a massive football fan and follow both the Scotland and Clyde teams. In my spare time, I help run the Digital Media for Clyde F.C. and operate the scoreboard in the stadium on match days. I also manage and play for the Clyde Supporters team, so my Saturdays usually end up quite busy.

Thanks Dom!

We have to admit, Dom has brought a breath of fresh air into the E-Commerce team. Bursting with new ideas to build and improve upon our customers online shopping experience, he’s more than an excellent tool in the E-Commerce cog.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Dom and finding out some insight into his role here at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms. Stay tuned for our next Staff Spotlight.

So this month we’re introducing you to Kyle, our Business Systems Manager.

Spotlight on...Kyle

Hi Kyle, tell us a bit about yourself.

I have been with Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms since 2018, originally joining as a Sage 200 Specialist to aid the company in their use of this system. Before venturing into the world of bathrooms, I worked as a Senior Business Analyst for a Sage Dealership in the UK delivering ERP solutions to an external client base. Systems and processes are my middle name, and my extensive knowledge and experience of Sage brought me to Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms.

What’s your role at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms?

Like I said, I was brought in as a Sage 200 Specialist, but have recently been promoted to Business Systems Manager. My current role is to manage all Wholesale Domestic software systems, improve upon these as well as making them more efficient.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

I’d say my favourite part of the job is the staff, I know that sounds cliché but having great work colleagues is definitely an important aspect of the job, and I love that everyone works hard together with a common goal in mind. I also love seeing the benefits of adding new functions to our current software, coming up with new ideas and implementing these, ultimately making a difference to the business in a hugely positive way.

What’s your favourite Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms product?

I really like the Black products that Wholesale Domestic offer. My two favourites at the moment are the Flow Black Taps and the Black Crittal style Shower Screen; I think they’re super sleek and contemporary, suitable for a variety of bathroom styles as well as catering to different demographics.

Have you got any Fun Facts about yourself?

Yes, I am a two-time world Bagpipe champion. I’ve been playing the bagpipes for over 30 years, with the Johnstone Pipe band, this hobby has taken me all over Europe performing at large scale concerts, and we’ve even recorded an album! Thanks Kyle!

Staff Spotlight on...Gemma

We love our staff at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms, and love the idea of you getting to know them.

This week, we’d like you to meet Gemma, our Marketing Executive.

Hello Gemma, tell us a bit about yourself?

I joined the company in May this year (2019), brought in as a Marketing Executive to support the growing needs of the Marketing team. I studied Fashion Branding at University, a bit far from the Bathroom game I’m in now, and graduated in 2014. Before commencing full time employment, I spent a year living my best life travelling across Australia & Asia. Since arriving home in 2015, I’ve worked in both the Marketing function of the Hair & Beauty, and Interiors industries.

What’s your role at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms?

As a Marketing Executive, my role is incredibly varied. Most people assume Marketing must mean “Facebook”, but there is so much more to it. I trend forecast, develop briefs & implement campaigns, taking a simple idea right through to fruition, working closely with our internal graphics and CGI team. Everything you see in our showroom, on the website, across social media, on TV, within emails, as well as hear on the radio comes from the Marketing team.

Spotlight on...

What’s your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part is creating design briefs. I trend forecast what is up and coming within Home interiors in terms of colour, pattern or style. And then work closely with our CGI team to bring that look to life in a Bathroom set, remaining on trend as well as incorporating Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms products.

What’s your favourite Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms product?

I really like the wall hung basin vanity units; I think they are super sleek and trendy. They work really well in both large scale or small bathrooms, giving the illusion of more space. I particularly love the City Molina Ash Wall Hung Vanity, something I’ve been considering for my own bathroom!

What do you like most about working for Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms?

As it’s a family run business which has been going for over 56 years, the team are incredibly close knit, so everyone works together to get the job done. I also enjoy tuning in to the STV sports news at 6pm and seeing our sponsorship adverts being shown – “STV Sports News Sponsored by Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms.”

Spotlight on...Gemma

Have you got any Fun Facts about yourself?

Yes, I’m a member of an amateur dramatics group, we perform Musicals/Pantomimes every Christmas time, this year it’s Aladdin!

Thanks Gemma!

Gemma has brought a lot to the table since joining the business in May, playing a pivotal role in the growth of the Wholesale Domestic Marketing function.

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Gemma and getting some insight into her role here. Stay tuned for our next Staff Spotlight!

Staff Spotlight on...Ainsley

At Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms, our staff are what makes us unique. Our employees are by far our biggest asset, which is why we love to big them up as much as we can!

This week, we’re going to introduce you to Ainsley, the newest member of our Accounts and HR Team!

Spotlight on...Ainsley

Hi Ainsley, tell us a bit about your history with Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms.

In early 2018, during my 3rd year at University studying Business & HR, I started working at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms within the Customer Services department. I really enjoyed being part of the Customer Services team and the tasks it entailed. The team were great to work with, extremely helpful and welcoming, which made the job that little bit easier. I took some time away from Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms to complete my final year at university, and returned once I’d obtained my degree. Since returning to the business, I am now an integral part of the Accounts and HR team.

What sort of tasks do you do day-to-day?

On a day-to-day basis, I oversee all areas of HR and have recently moved into the Accounts side of things. I look at daily figures, banking, inducting new employees, recruitment and interviews amongst other HR tasks. I also keep an eye on employee time keeping, absences, holidays and appointments, alongside employee development and training. Employee wellbeing is key to this role and it is something I really enjoy doing, putting my degree into practice.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of the job is probably working and liaising with all members of the business and helping them be the best they can be in the workplace. I am a huge people person and really enjoy interacting with current and new employees. As employees, we spend a lot of our day in the workplace and I believe it’s important to make each employee’s working life better, improve communication between departments and generally make Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms a great place to work. I also have a keen interest in business development and efficiency and enjoy being involved in all aspects of the company, whether that is HR or accounts related.

What would you say are the biggest challenges in your job?

I’d say one of the biggest challenges I face is accuracy of information, such as ensuring all employee details, training, absences and wellbeing is up to date and accurate. With over 70 employees now, our HR team is quite small and trying to catch up with all staff with varying rotas and shift patterns can be challenging.

If you could swap jobs with anyone else at Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms, who would it be?

Hmm, that’s a hard one, but I’d probably say the Marketing department. Even though their jobs are hugely demanding, organising adverts, marketing campaigns and social media all seem extremely creative and enjoyable, and the Marketing team are all great to work with in the office.

We know it's tough, but what would you choose as your favourite Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms product?

My favourite product would have to be the freestanding slipper baths! They’re so extra and luxurious and I would love to have one in my home. However as my bathroom is already fitted with a bath, I don’t think my boyfriend would be best pleased if we had one in the middle of the living room! So I suppose I’ll need to wait a little longer before I can buy one for my bathroom.

Finally, what do you like most about working for Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms?

I really enjoy working for an honest family business that is hugely successful, sustainable and caring towards their staff. The team are great and many employees have been here for decades and are very knowledgeable in their field. Despite me being in the office environment now, the customers that come in (especially the trade customer’s dogs) are great and no two are the same!

Thanks Ainsley!

Ainsley’s been a busy bee since she started her new role here. On top of her normal duties, she’s also taken the lead in collating our new employee newsletter!

It’s safe to say that Ainsley has integrated herself into the office brilliantly and we couldn’t be happier to have her in the team!

We hope you enjoyed getting to know Ainsley and getting some insight into her role here. Stay tuned for our next Staff Spotlight!
