Meet Scott, our Customer Service Team Leader

Meet Scott- Customer Service Team Leader

This week, I’m delighted to introduce you to Scott! Scott has been with the company for over 20 years, and I’m thrilled to announce that he’s recently been appointed the role of Customer Service Team Leader! Well done, Scott!

I asked Scott to take some time out of his increasingly hectic schedule to answer a few questions about his journey with Wholesale Domestic, and tell us a bit about his new role.

So, here it is: Scott’s very own Wholesale Domestic story.

Tell us about your history with Wholesale Domestic.

Well, how long have you got? I started around 1997 as a van-boy, then moved into a warehouse capacity. Unfortunately, whilst there I had an industrial accident and broke my leg; this moved me into a more sales based role. Albeit this was only meant to be temporary but, after my leg healed, I was asked to remain, as I can talk for Scotland. After a small sabbatical of 3 years, I returned to work in a sales role. I have also worked in a supervisory role within the sales and operations section of the business, albeit not officially. We then moved to our new customer collection site at Montrose Avenue and, after helping to build and implement a successful team, I took up the official role of team leader a few weeks ago.

Tell us a bit about your new role as Customer Service Team Leader.

It’s not much different to my previous role to be honest as, due to my length of service, I’m considered to be the go to guy for most procedures/knowledge of the company’s ethics and technical assistance… oh and emails, lots and lots of extra emails.

What’s your favourite part of your job?

My co-workers, who are now considered to be really good friends and some I even consider family. With being here so young, a lot of my colleagues have helped me to be the person I am today (I have about 4 mammies and 10 uncles that still work here now).

Wholesale Domestic- Customer Service Team Leader

What are the biggest challenges in your job?

Not knowing what we will be dealing with on a day to day basis. More exciting than challenging; we thrive on pressure in customer services!

If you could swap jobs with anyone else at Wholesale Domestic, who would it be?

Liz the cleaner; I LOVE cleaning (sad as that may seem, it’s the GH truth!)

Any memorable or funny stories to tell from your time working here?

Loads, but none that would be considered as printable … if pushed, then I suppose it would be the time we put insanity hot sauce in a manager’s soup!

What’s your favourite thing about working for Wholesale Domestic?

Being part of the Wholesale Domestic family – cut me and I bleed wholesale tartan blood – and of course, job security that working with a successful company brings. Wholesale Domestic has been part of my life for so long now that I feel like part of the furniture.

Meet Enzo, our CGI Artist

This week, I’m delighted to introduce you to Enzo, our CGI Artist. Enzo has been with Wholesale Domestic since last year and is a vital part of our ecommerce team.

In a nutshell, Enzo’s job is to create 3D images of our products for our website and social channels. I caught up with Enzo to ask him a few questions about his role here.

So, without further ado, here it is: Enzo’s very own Wholesale Domestic story.

Meet Enzo, our CGI Artist

Tell us about your history with Wholesale Domestic.
I started out as a humble salesman in the showroom where the staff showed me the ins and outs of bathrooms. Over time, I wanted to offer more of my digital skills to the business and within a short time, they took notice of my ability and found the right place for me, creating 3D visuals from the ground up. The hardest thing was leaving the sales team behind.

What do you do on a day to day basis?
Oh wow, if I were to give you the details we could be here quite a while! I'll work on measuring or collecting reference images of real products and, piece by piece, make a 3D version of it. After that, I need to create a 2D texture to make it look like wood or ceramic by playing with things like, how shiny is it, how rough is it, how much reflection does it give off and is that reflection diffuse (blurry)? Then I’ll plan and build a whole 3D set, with everything a bathroom would have; from there, I light the scene, which is probably the hardest part, and render the final image for post processing. Phew!

What’s your favourite part of your job?
It may seem odd, but being a specialist within the company is a really great feeling. The freedom to express myself through set design and creating those aspirational images everyone loves to see on Pinterest. Basically, I get to make pretty pictures every day!

Meet our CGI Artist- Wholesale Domestic

What don’t you like about your job?
At times we have difficulty getting information about products from suppliers. For me, this halts my process. If I can't create an accurate 3D model depicting the product, then this can obviously lead to problems. The devil is in the detail.

If you could swap jobs with anyone else at Wholesale Domestic, who would it be?
It would have to be with one of the boys in the warehouse. I'm not getting any thinner sitting behind a computer! In all honesty, I couldn't switch. I enjoy what I do too much.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Wholesale Domestic?
The staff. No matter who you are, or what part of the company you work in, they all integrate with you and take the time to get to know you. It really is a family business here.

Most memorable moment of working here?
The day I was told I’d be doing 3D work for the company was an emotional day for me. It sticks in my mind as I had struggled to find something locally for years and honestly, I could have cried. There, you happy?!

And finally, what do you do in your free time?

I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to my free time. I produce music and play role playing games! You'll hardly ever find me in front of a TV, I’m usually too busy building or creating something both digitally and physically.

Meet Sylvia, our Showroom Sales Advisor

This week, I’m delighted to introduce you to Sylvia, our showroom sales advisor. Sylvia is one of our longest serving employees with 30 years under her belt! Sylvia has been an indispensable member of the sales team throughout the years, it’s hard to believe that she’s been with us for three decades. So this week, we decided it was about time to dedicate our blog to her.

Meet Sylvia, our showroom sales advisor

Here it is, Sylvia’s very own Wholesale Domestic story.

First, I asked Sylvia what her job involves on a day-to-day basis, and this is what she said…

“I have worked at wholesale domestic for 30 years, so as you can imagine my daily duties have changed a lot over the years. Today my job is to sell our bathroom suites and bathroom goods to our customers which l love and have a real passion for. I take a lot of pride in what l do as every customer is special. l love working with all our work colleagues too, I think we make a great team together.”

Sylvia has worked at Wholesale Domestic for 30 years!

Can you tell us anything interesting about the history of Wholesale Domestic?

“We have sold a lot of different products over the years since l have worked here. At one point we sold everything from three piece suites, to fireplaces, to bedroom furniture and even designer wallpaper.”

“I remember when l started in our Argyle Street shop, our current Finance & IT Director was only two years old, and l have watched him grow into a lovely young man who is now my boss!”

Can you share one of your personal highlights?

“At one point we sold furniture in Argyle street, and one day we had Marti Pellow from Wet Wet Wet in to buy a table chairs to play cards that night in his mum’s house. He had to take it that day, but that was no problem for us. He was gorgeous and so lovely and he gave us his autograph.” (She laughs)

What do you think of the changes at Wholesale Domestic?

“Over the years, I have watched Wholesale Domestic develop into a hugely popular family business. Last year I witnessed the opening of a new building in Montrose Avenue which was exciting to be part of. The business has come a long way over the years, we now have an e-commerce site and things like finance available which didn’t exist when I first started! Although there have been some changes over the years, the family have always managed to maintain their high standards and core values, which is why I believe they have been so successful in their industry.”

Sylvia, would you like to share anything about your personal life?

“I have been happily married for 44 years to my husband who I adore. We have three border terrier dogs who are my pride and joy, it just gets better & better over the years.”

Sylvia is beloved by our directors and by each of her colleagues. She always has a smile on her face and an amazing can-do attitude. She’s an integral part of our business and we would just like to offer our sincere thanks for her dedication and hard work over the 30 years she’s been with us. Thank you, Sylvia!

Thank you Sylvia from Wholesale Domestic

Meet Callum, our Customer Service Advisor

This week, I’m delighted to introduce Callum, our customer service advisor. Callum has worked at Wholesale Domestic for 4 months, which means he passed his probationary period with flying colours, go Callum! He’s been a welcome addition to the customer service team, supporting the department as it grows, and has integrated himself effortlessly. So this week, we decided to dedicate our blog to him.

Here it is, Callum’s very own Wholesale Domestic story…

Meet Callum, our customer service advisor

First, I asked Callum what his job entailed on a day-to-day basis, and this is what he told me…

“I help with all things customer related from being in a sales environment, to processing online orders, to helping customers with questions they have about our products, returns and sales etc. I’m also involved in delivery enquiries, such as, booking in deliveries and updating customers on their orders, also helping customers that have made quotes with us. There’s never a dull moment!”

So Callum, what do you like about your job?

“I really enjoy working with our customer service team, they are a great group of people who support each other to get through our daily tasks. I also really like being customer facing as I feel like it is an area I excel in, I hope our customers agree!”

Callum from Wholesale Domestic

What don’t you like about your new position?

“I don’t enjoy when we are not able to fulfil exactly what a customer is looking for, whether it comes down to stock, delivery or damaged products. It can be very disappointing for both the customer and myself. We will always try to go above and beyond for every customer to make them feel valued.”

What’s the best thing about working at Wholesale Domestic?

“We had a staff night out a few weeks ago which was a lot of fun! We went to The Experience for dinner and Go Karting, and it was good to chat to all the different departments, and meet other staff that are located in different buildings. Wholesale Domestic organises an event every month which creates a buzz with the staff, and I think this is really good for staff morale.”

I know that this is quite a fun environment to work in, but what’s been your favourite moment since you started?

“Our graphic designer was trying to put posters on our automatic doors a few weeks ago. The entire customer service team watched him as he tried to outsmart the doors with ninja moves, it’s was hilarious to watch. I don’t think he’ll ever live it down!” (He laughs)

Callum’s manager, Sheila, wanted to chime in with a few thoughts about Callum and the team…

“Callum has been a fantastic addition to the Customer Services team, he has really hit the ground running considering there is so much to learn, and at such a busy time. We are very lucky to have such a great, hardworking and committed team and he has slotted right in.”

Sheila also said…

“His extra effort, dedication and opinions are all extremely valuable to our success, and I’d like to say a huge thanks to Callum for all of his help and Congratulations on passing his probationary period….very well deserved!”

Well done, Callum on passing your 3 month work probation

So there you have it! Callum is certainly well appreciated by his team, and as a business we’re delighted to have another friendly team member with his unique skills on board. Well done Callum, we hope that you have a long career ahead of you at Wholesale Domestic. Catch you all next week!

Meet Linsay, our Accounts Assistant

This week I’d like to introduce our accounts assistant, Linsay. Linsay has only been with us for just a few months, but her positive outlook and can-do attitude has already made her an essential part of our team. So this week, we thought she deserved her very own shout out, blog style.

So here it is, Linsay’s very own Wholesale Domestic story…

Meet Linsay, our accounts assistant

Linsay’s main role in our company is to assist our HR & accounts manager by processing special orders and invoices, dealing with finance orders and helping with staff contracts and human resource tasks. Linsay’s daily schedule also includes general admin work and she helps out with our charity events from time to time too.

I managed to catch up with Linsay this morning to ask her a few questions about her role, and this is what she told me…

Firstly, I asked Linsay what do you like about your new job?

“I really enjoy the HR side to my job. It’s lovely to see newcomers to the company and create everything they need to be inducted. I think it’s really important to make sure that everyone is made to feel welcome the way I was when I first started. I love to be busy, and a constant varied workflow challenges me in a way that I really enjoy. I also like to help my manager Maureen in any way that I can so she has extra time for more important tasks.”

Accounts assistant

Is there anything you don’t like?

“I really don’t like it when orders are delayed. It just means that our customers need to wait for their products, which could cause delays in installation. I like to see everything on time and happy customers. We never want to disappoint our customers, and when there are delays, we’re always disappointed as much as them.”

Is there anything you feel you’d like to improve on?

“Yes. Absolutely. There are a few things that I would like to change, but I feel that the main thing I need to work on is my product knowledge. We literally have thousands upon thousands of products, and that doesn’t include all of our special order items. I would love to get to the point where I know what everything is without having to consult my product bible! I have only been here since June, so I know that my familiarity will build up over time and get me where I want to be.”

Is there anything that you’d like to add?

“This position has been life-changing for me, and I feel really excited to see where it takes me in the future. Our office is a lovely environment to work in, so I feel like I’ve settled in really well already. I’m eager to work hard and my goal is to eventually get more responsibility over time to keep me busy and always challenged.”

Accounts assistant Linsay

I need to mention that Linsay has just recently won an award at the Renfrewshire Employability Awards 2017 for her tenacity and work ethics. We want to offer our congratulations! Well done, and we truly hope that you have a long career ahead of you at Wholesale Domestic.

From talking to Linsay, it’s easy to see that she’s a team player with strong values. She really cares about the business, and is exceptionally passionate about this opportunity. It was genuinely heartening to speak to someone who is so enthusiastic about their role. Thanks so much for your time Linsay, it was a pleasure talking to you. You’ve added another smiling face to our ever expanding accounts team!

Catch up with me next week when I’ll be introducing our newest blogger on the block, Scott.
