Meet Enzo, our CGI Artist

Meet Enzo, our CGI Artist

Posted by Sarah Kielbasiewicz 30th Aug 2018

This week, I’m delighted to introduce you to Enzo, our CGI Artist. Enzo has been with Wholesale Domestic since last year and is a vital part of our ecommerce team.

In a nutshell, Enzo’s job is to create 3D images of our products for our website and social channels. I caught up with Enzo to ask him a few questions about his role here.

So, without further ado, here it is: Enzo’s very own Wholesale Domestic story.

Meet Enzo, our CGI Artist

Tell us about your history with Wholesale Domestic.
I started out as a humble salesman in the showroom where the staff showed me the ins and outs of bathrooms. Over time, I wanted to offer more of my digital skills to the business and within a short time, they took notice of my ability and found the right place for me, creating 3D visuals from the ground up. The hardest thing was leaving the sales team behind.

What do you do on a day to day basis?
Oh wow, if I were to give you the details we could be here quite a while! I'll work on measuring or collecting reference images of real products and, piece by piece, make a 3D version of it. After that, I need to create a 2D texture to make it look like wood or ceramic by playing with things like, how shiny is it, how rough is it, how much reflection does it give off and is that reflection diffuse (blurry)? Then I’ll plan and build a whole 3D set, with everything a bathroom would have; from there, I light the scene, which is probably the hardest part, and render the final image for post processing. Phew!

What’s your favourite part of your job?
It may seem odd, but being a specialist within the company is a really great feeling. The freedom to express myself through set design and creating those aspirational images everyone loves to see on Pinterest. Basically, I get to make pretty pictures every day!

What don’t you like about your job?
At times we have difficulty getting information about products from suppliers. For me, this halts my process. If I can't create an accurate 3D model depicting the product, then this can obviously lead to problems. The devil is in the detail.

If you could swap jobs with anyone else at Wholesale Domestic, who would it be?
It would have to be with one of the boys in the warehouse. I'm not getting any thinner sitting behind a computer! In all honesty, I couldn't switch. I enjoy what I do too much.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Wholesale Domestic?
The staff. No matter who you are, or what part of the company you work in, they all integrate with you and take the time to get to know you. It really is a family business here.

Most memorable moment of working here?
The day I was told I’d be doing 3D work for the company was an emotional day for me. It sticks in my mind as I had struggled to find something locally for years and honestly, I could have cried. There, you happy?!

And finally, what do you do in your free time?

I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to my free time. I produce music and play role playing games! You'll hardly ever find me in front of a TV, I’m usually too busy building or creating something both digitally and physically.
