Changing your kitchen tap is an easy job when you follow these clear steps:
- Turn off the water supply - Switch off the mains water supply by using the stopcock (or isolate the hot and cold supplies if isolation valves are fitted beneath the sink) and open the existing taps to drain any remaining water from the pipes.
- Disconnect the old tap - Place a bucket or towel beneath the sink to catch any remaining water. Use an adjustable spanner or basin wrench to disconnect the flexible tap connectors or pipework, then loosen the retaining nut holding the tap in place.
- Remove the old tap and clean the area – Lift the old tap out through the mounting hole and remove any old sealant, limescale or debris from the sink surface.
- Fit the new tap - Feed the tap tails or flexible hoses through the mounting hole, ensuring any rubber seals or washers are positioned correctly. Fit and tighten the retaining nut from underneath to secure the tap.
- Reconnect the water supply - Reconnect the hot and cold water pipes or flexible connectors, taking care not to overtighten the fittings.
- Turn the water back on - Slowly reopen the stopcock or isolation valves and check all connections for leaks. Run both the hot and cold water for a few minutes to flush out any debris and ensure the tap is working correctly.
