Finding the right radiator size depends on your room's dimensions and insulation. To get the perfect match, you’ll need to calculate the British Thermal Unit (BTU) requirements of your space, which measures how much energy is needed to heat it.

You can work this out in a few simple steps:

  • Find the room volume – Measure and multiply your room’s length, width, and height in metres. This will give you the volume of the space.
  • Apply the room multiplier – Times that volume by a standard number for the room type (around 45 for bathrooms, 40 for living rooms, and 30 for bedrooms).
  • Adjust for heat loss – Add an extra 10% to 20% if the room has large windows, north-facing walls, or poor insulation.
  • Convert to BTUs – If your calculation is in Watts, multiply it by 3.41 to get your target BTU.

For a larger room or open-plan living area, you’ll need a design with a higher heat output, like a double-panel or large-column radiator. However, with smaller spaces, you can get away with something more compact, like a single-panel radiator.
